My Test Drive of Pika

Pika claims to be an idea-to-video platform and their prompt window asks you to describe your story. After looking at some of the gallery of videos created, I will write a prompt with the same mountains with flowers and a waterfall but see if I can bring this scene to life.

In addition to a prompt to describe your story, you also have access to some settings to give you further control over your videos. There is camera control allowing you to set the motion you want in your video. You can pan, tilt, rotate, and zoom and determine the strength of the set motion.

You can upload an image or video to provide context for the AI to use when building your video. You can also determine the aspect ratio and the number of frames per second.

A final panel of settings allows you to enter negative prompts (words to describe what you do not want to see in your video) and a seed. Finally, there is a setting to control the consistency of the results with the text prompt. The lower the number, the less creative the AI will be in the composition of your video.

Prompt Test 1

I will use a more detailed prompt and set the motion to zoom in. My goal is to see the flowers bloom and grow but the prompt and motion control will probably not allow for this.
A mountainous scene like the fjords of Norway, with a river and waterfall running through them. The mountains are covered in brightly colored flowers blooming rapidly.
It took approximately 60 seconds to generate the video.

Prompt Test 2

I did a modification of the prompt because I didn’t like the fjord aspect of the video. I also removed the zoom in motion control to allow the AI full control over that as well.

Prompt Test 3

This video is beautiful. I was very pleased that the AI chose to animate the water falling over the mountain instead of a zoom or pan motion. The style of the flowers could be improved so they seem more lifelike and not as if they were painted poorly.

Now I will try the prompt I have been using across platforms:

A caricature of a unicorn and a dragon playing softball together in a cartoonish animated style

It took approximately 60 seconds to generate the video.

Results:
This last video is comical and almost adult in nature. It seems to me that the creature on the left is happy to see the one on the right and the one on the right is not happy to have been interrupted. It’s hilarious when I look at it through this lens. Also, is the unidragon farting?

I was only able to create 3 videos with my daily credits. As I go back to testing the platform, I will add more videos here. Pika is another that adds slight motion to still images, rather than true video creation.  That being said, I like the second video I created with them the most of all platforms that I have tried to date. You would do well to give them a try for your own creative projects.
